There’s a new hotel on the block and it’s seriously cool. Qbic Manchester is right up our street with its eco-friendly vibes and epic hangout spot Motley Manchester on the ground floor.
Brand new to Deansgate, Qbic Manchester on John Dalton Street occupies a former office block, although you’d never know it! Oozing with the wow factor from the moment you step through the door, the hotel’s reception area (where you can swipe the screen of a computer to check in), brings you directly into Motley – sweeping you up into an Instagrammer’s wonderland of must-capture photo opps from all angles.
Qbic Hotel’s Eco-Friendly Approach
With ‘green’ hotels already in London, Brussels and Amsterdam, Qbic Manchester follows suit in its eco-approach. Hotel rooms are constructed using free standing cubes which contain the bathroom and super king size bed in one ‘pod’. They can be constructed in just six hours and taken down easily for repurposing, while the structures themselves are recyclable. Bathroom products are all kind to the environment and feature ‘Faith in Nature’ organic toiletries and a shower system which uses less water, while the hotel also runs on solar power. Bins in each room have recycling compartments so you can easily do your bit and, if you choose not to have your room cleaned, you’ll be rewarded with a free drink at the bar – now THAT is an awesome incentive we should all be taking advantage of!
From ‘Mini’ to ‘Fancy’ but Always ‘Cosy’ – Rooms at Qbic Manchester
Qbic Manchester boasts 261 rooms which range from ‘mini’ and ‘smart’, to ‘fun’ and ‘fancy’ with ‘cosy’ rooms in between. ‘Mini’ rooms are the most basic and provide an economical eco-stay for guests who are using their rooms as a base to explore the city, while ‘fancy’ rooms go the whole hog with big suite style rooms, floor-to-ceiling glass windows with views of the city and a large seating area. All rooms come with a TV, super fast wifi, oh-so comfortable organic handmade super king Naturalmat matresses and plenty of mirrors. Free tea and coffees are available from the ‘hub’ area, located by the lifts on each floor.
Motley Manchester at Qbic
A destination bar and restaurant in its own right, Motley Manchester’s bar and restaurant space along with its all weather terrace, forms the ground floor of the Qbic Hotel. While other hotel restaurants often have a reputation for being a bit stuffy, the same can’t be said of Motley which exudes fun and fabulousness from every corner. The restaurant’s Saints and Sinners theme celebrate famous Manchester figures with nods to Emmeline Pankhurst, Alan Turing and William Cowherd (the vegetarian who was a secret meat-eater!) and you’ll find they’re cleverly weaved into the fabric of every design element.
With meeting rooms, a stylish sound-proof karaoke room and private dining areas (we ate in The Turing Room), as well as high tables, comfy sofas and cocktail chairs, Motley is an ‘eat, drink, hangout’ spot anytime of the day or night and dogs are welcome too! Popping with personality, the interiors combine neon, graffiti, Instagram mirrors, hanging plants and the most incredible wallpaper we’ve ever seen courtesy of local designer Beth Travers aka Bobo1325.
It’s a creative, inspiring space and perfect for wine or cocktails (the pink pornstar martini was a definite favourite), a light bite or a full on dinner. Food is locally sourced, low key, low priced and really really tasty. Choose from a range of paddle board sized flatbreads with spiced lamb or salmon, starters which include fish and beef tacos and chicken lollipops, and mains ranging from Moroccan chicken cous cous to steak and spaghetti. Don’t be surprised if you end up sat next to the bull with gold horns, the life-size mannequin, or the dog wearing headphones!
Most definitely the quirkiest hotel you’ll have ever stayed in, Qbic Manchester combines crazy, creative and cool into one awesome hotel stay. With rooms from just £58 per night, why would you stay anywhere else?! Book here.
