The Westminster London – a Curio Collection by Hilton Hotel has just undergone extensive renovation, making it one of London’s hottest new hotels.
Lobby
Ultra-modern, stylish and unique with beautifully designed interiors throughout, the expansive lobby area is an aesthetic wonder. Check in staff are charming and knowledgeable and as the hotel’s theme is based around mystery and curiosity (with politicians, journalists and MI5 all frequenting the area ), they’ll happily indulge you in quirky facts about the hotel. The massive artworks on the walls behind reception are just a little too blurry for you to work out exactly who they’re portraits of. And the hotels gigantic front façade is filled with 14 black bowler hats on stands, along with one random red hat which mysteriously disappears and reappears in various locations around the hotel.
Location
Just 10 minutes walk from Pimlico station and 13 minutes from St James’s Park, The Westminster London is just a stone’s throw from The Thames, Millbank, Westminster Abbey and the park itself. Big Ben and Houses of Parliament are also within walking distance and the Tate Modern is literally across the road. It’s a great area to position yourself in if you’re visiting the city and want to really explore.
Rooms
Rooms and suites at Westminster London range from the Queen Guest Room up to the King One Bedroom Suite which we luxuriated in on the top (13th) floor. The two level 24 hour gym with panoramic views out across London was also conveniently located on our floor which made it impossible to avoid (definitely a good thing given that we were heading to STK for dinner!)
Our suite oozed luxury, from the spacious entrance area to the walk-in wardrobe and the curved aesthetics of the built-in cupboards and dressers. The lounge area with comfy chairs and a sofa bed offered up views of The Thames in a really comfy space for relaxing in front of the wall mounted TV.
With dividing doors to close off the bedroom and bathroom area, the king double bed was a dream to sleep in. The sleek and sexy bathroom, home to possibly the biggest bath I’ve seen in a suite, was cleverly concealed behind black designer sliding doors which let no light through whatsoever at night. We loved the clearly labelled light switches (always a bug bear of mine in hotel rooms when you can’t work out which switch for which light), and there was even a switch for mood lighting. We agreed this really enchanced the room at night and added that atmospheric touch against the backdrop of Thames beyond the floor-to-ceiling glass.
STK Westminster
Home to a bowling alley and destination restaurant on the first floor which is accessible via the Westminster London’s lifts or via a separate entrance to the front of the hotel, STK Westminster has just opened making it the newest restaurant in the London restaurant STK portfolio. When we visited, the restaurant was adorned with incredible Halloween decorations – no doubt their Christmas offering is just as impressive!
Bathed in STK’s trademark purple glow, the bar area is a chic stop-off for wine, beers or cocktails pre-dinner. As with all the STK’s I’ve visited, the restaurant’s spacious and intimate round banquette seating offers up real privacy from other diners – making it feel like an extra special eating experience. Being an American concept, as you’d imagine, portion sizes are most definitely on the large side, the menu itself is extensive and there’s absolutely no point in counting calories when you’re in here – especially when you notice the huge selection of seafood, steaks, steak butters, steak sauces… and so the list goes on! Every kind of steak you can think of is on the menu from fillets and flat irons to wagyus, tomahawks and roasted lobster tail surf & turfs.
We devoured torteloni and black truffle starters and 200g of perfectly cooked fillet with pepper crust topping, béarnaise sauce and truffle butter! Mac & cheese, triple cooked chips and creamed spinach tipped us over the edge. So much so, there was no room for New York style cheesecake and raspberries.
Breakfast is also served here at STK, although by morning, the restaurant looks completely different and has a number of different stations for hot and cold breakfast items, pastries, full English, omelettes and eggs on demand, even bao buns which you can fill with whatever you fancy! While STK is a great option for a fancy evening meal, it’s also worth mentioning that you’ll find Bao Yum in the hotel’s reception – for a casual bao style snack any time of the day!
Westminster London is a really beautiful hotel in a landmark location. Whether you’re staying for business or for the tourist experience, the exceptional staff, incredible interiors and spacious comfy rooms make this a top choice for a luxurious stay.
