Small batch Mermaid Salt Vodka from the Isle of Wight Distillery is a truly stunning gift for the vodka lover (and one they’ll probably want to keep for special occasions! Not only is the white statement sculpted bottle adorned with the scales of a mystical sea creature, but the bottle itself is made exclusively from sustainable materials which makes it sooooo hot right now. Biodegradeable paint and a natural cork top are used in production, while the distillery works in partnership with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust to both monitor and restore damaged seagrass meadows. As the name suggests, Mermaid Salt Vodka does indeed contain just a pinch of locally sourced sea salt which you can smell ever so faintly on the nose – reminiscent of the sea. Don Papa Rum
Don Papa Rum have launched their newest expression – Port Cask which is a limited edition rum to commemorate 500 years since Portugese explorer Ferdinand Magellan set off in search of the Spice Islands.
This super premium rum is the latest addition to the Don Papa portfolio – Don Papa Port Cask, as with all Don Papa Rum, is distilled on the mystical and fertile island of Sugarlandia – the local name for Negros. The volcanic climate at the foothills of Mt. Kanloan which is actually an active volcano, mean that what is already an intense, full-bodied expression, has an extra layer of complexity to its flavour. After two years in ex bourbon casks, Port Cask as you’d expect given the name, is transferred to port casks for another five years. This dark, spiced rum has a warming lingering fruitiness, dark notes of oak, chocolate and muscovado sugar and juicy blood oranges, with ripe berries and vanilla. The bottle’s surrealist design is a dream for any collector, with creatures of Sugerlandia and the irreverence of Papa Isio who founded Don Papa depicted on the label.
