With gothic vibes, killer cocktails, mood lighting and smouldering corridors which lead to hidden boudoirs and romantic bolt holes, House of Gods is Edinburgh’s sexiest hidden gem of a hotel.
Turning the rules of the classic hotel on its head, this boutique haven lives for being different and you’ll leave with a new lease of life.
House of Gods occupies a great location on Cowgate, just a few minutes walk from The Royal Mile. The hotel bends the rules in every sense, while maintaining a high level of service. This is a hotel where unlimited prosecco comes as part of their many packages and where butlers are just a what’s app message away from making exquisite cocktails at your door!
Lavish rooms include The Cabin, The Classic and The Suite. We loved the bar in our ‘Classic’ Versailles inspired room, which was stocked with glass after glass of prosecco for the duration of our stay. The opulent hand built four poster bed was dreamy to sleep in, while the hidden espresso machine is good to know about (before you arrive), as we didn’t discover this until we were leaving!
While the bathrooms are small, they’re beautiful, and functional. In full marble, it’s more of wet room and also the only place you’ll find good lighting to do your make-up as the rooms all retain that ‘moody lighting’ feel.
House of Gods wants you to feel like a rockstar and if that’s your vibe, then you absolutely must add on the ‘Treat Me Like I’m Famous’ rider package. This insane offering is so rock n roll, you might as well wear sunglasses for the duration of your entire stay.
As part of the package, we arrived to a lavish welcome of golden rose petals covering our four poster bed. With luxury chocs as a side offering and a tonne of floating balloons, we really felt special from the get-go.
As promised, the prosecco was most definitely free-flowing and it was impossible to drink our bar dry! With a coupe filled to the brim for the entirety of our stay, as soon as we neared the bottom of the glass, we pressed the button and magically, more appeared at our door!
We knew our package included a ‘millionaire cocktail’ but we weren’t aware that House of God’s butler service would actually bring his trolley and cocktail making kit to our door to make it for us – what an experience. Of course, it also tasted divine, but the theatre of it all was definitely the best part.
Also included in the ‘Lock Me Up Like I’m Famous’ package, was a complimentary £50 to spend in House of Gods’ brand new next door bar Lilith’s Lounge – a sexy little hideaway and a must-visit if you’re in Edinburgh. After enjoying some cocktails in the hotel’s downstairs bar (highly recommended), we made our way next door to take in the vibes and enjoy even more cocktails in lavish surroundings!
You might say the rest of the night passed by in somewhat of a blur (unlimited prosecco might just do that to you!), but we made it home to bed and enjoyed a wonderful night’s sleep before coffees, breakfast mimosas and bagels were delivered to our room in a cute picnic hamper.
All rock stars should start their day with a glass of fizz and a late check out, and as we stepped out into the Edinburgh afternoon sunshine, luggage in tow, we concluded that while naturally, the details were slightly hazy, we had just lived 24 hours of our best lives.
For a VIP experience and a hotel unlike any other, House of Gods is a must-visit. Just don’t forget those sunglasses.
Rooms at House of Gods start from £139 for the cabin. Check out the VIP rockstar add-on package priced at just £99, here.
