OK, we might be stretching the definition of ‘luxury’ here – but just look at it. “The best supercar available today,” according to Top Gear, AND it’s a hybrid? The combined electric and twin-turbo V6 engines produce a mighty 818bhp. “Right now no-one builds a better mid-engined supercar than this”, the TG team even opined.
Thanks to the silent electric engine as you glide around town, you’ll be able to hear the sound of jaws hitting the floor from the other side of the street.
Mercedes S-Class
A contemporary of the Audi, hardly any motorway journey of the early to mid-1990s was complete without the experience of one of these cruising by in the outside lane. The S-Class first appeared in 1972, and is one of the most desirable executive saloons you can drive. ABS, traction control and electrically-adjustable front seats give this a real air of gravitas.
Jaguar XK-8
The F-Type that never was. Built on the same underpinnings as an Aston Martin DB7, the XK-8 came in both coupe and convertible styles. The car proved so popular that, with some engine tweaks, it stayed in production for 10 years, with over 90,000 being built.
More of interest to anyone reading this will be the XK-8 driver who reviewed his car thus: “It’s a beautiful cruiser… the most reliable, worry-free vehicle I ever owned.”
