I have discovered paradise in the UK, and I want to tell you all about it so that you can experience it too. Pennsylvania Castle Estate is one of the most picturesque locations I have ever visited in the UK, located on the Isle of Portland along the Dorset coastline (famously known as the Jurassic Coast) and the views around this estate are just sensational!
Pennsylvania Castle Estate offers a variety of accommodation options and services to suit all their guests from a family holiday to a romantic getaway, corporate events, weddings and much more – you name it and they will accommodate you.
The Clifftops hosts five luxury lodges built along the stone cliffs of Portland looking out on the beautiful Jurassic coastline. The scenery is out of this world and I can honestly say that I’ve never seen a view like this from a balcony in England. You could literally be anywhere. There is also a roof garden deck located above the clifftop lodges that looks out onto the beautiful sea view.
Each lodge has been individually named and decorated to reflect the environment. The lodge we stayed in was called Ope and wow, wow, wow, it was just incredible. Perfectly size for four adults, plus our baby.
The very spacious Ope Lodge has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, an open plan kitchen living space with bi-folding doors leading onto a large terrace and an external kitchen. Of course, not forgetting the hot tub which is in prime position for those sea views! There’s plenty of seating outside on the terrace for dining and relaxing on which blends beautifully with the aesthetic of the lodge. It is important to add that Ope Lodge is all on one level, so very family/baby friendly.
Inside, the interior design is fabulous. Fit for a King with fresh, sharp modern vibes, a touch of black and gold detailing placed around the lodge gives a very coordinated finish. The feature wooden wall is a unique statement that divides the living space and sleeping area. It offers a soft contrast between the rich blue sofa and bold grey dining table keeping the lodge feel cosy. The quality of furnishing and appliances is A*. Every single little detail has been thought of. From Church Hill china, to Cox & Cox bedding, matching kitchen appliances, anti-glare TV, The White Company towelling, and good wifi connection that works fast, I could probably list out everything in the lodge, it was all top-quality and luxury.
The architects, Morrow + Lorraine designed the buildings with a lot thought and respect to the natural surroundings as it plays an important part in the historic Pennsylvania Castle Estate’s landscape. If you look at the wall of the lodges, you will find sea creatures that lived here 185 million years ago.
On the day of arrival, we opted for the dining experience Arrive & Cook. This is perfect so you don’t have to worry about cooking after you have arrived. Your chosen meal has been freshly made and ready for you to put in the oven and I can confirm that it was delicious and made the whole arrival experience relaxing and very easy going! Our Italian Treat meal included lasagne, garlic bread ciabatta, chocolate and almond torte accompanied by a bottle of red wine from the Penn Cellar – yummy!
The atmosphere of the whole estate is very calming and enchanting, so it’s perfect if you want a quiet getaway! Your lodge comes with an iPad with all the information you need for your stay and is a fast way of communication with staff that are around every day if needed. I recommend a minimum of three nights here, but wished we could’ve stayed for a week; you really won’t want to leave this beautiful place.
Church Ope Cove is the beach that can be seen below from the clifftops and can be accessed by a nearby footpath. It is like paradise on a private beach – so tranquil with clear blue water, although sadly no sand… But that won’t affect the beauty of this location – just make sure you have your beach shoes with you. It’s totally worth it!
After seeing the images on social media, I’ve had so many people asking where I’ve been staying and everyone was surprised to hear that the incredible Pennsylvania Castle Estate is here in the UK. I feel like I could write endlessly about the estate as it’s really an exquisite place – one of the best coastal trips in the UK. But I am going to leave it here and let you experience it in person. Click here to have a look on the website and get booking those dates as they are going fast!
