For authentic French cuisine in the heart of Hexham, Bouchon Bistrot (just half an hour from Newcastle) is the perfect al fresco spot for the warmer weather.
With a gorgeous terrace and stylish indoor dining, this beautiful restaurant which is featured in The Good Food Guide for 2024 offers up perfectly executed dishes whether you’re ordering monkfish cheeks beignet with sweet chili jam sauce or freshly caught tuna nicoise.
Mains are served with French finesse – chicken and tarragon ballotine with pomme dauphine, truffled leeks and red wine sauce is a hearty plate full of complimenting flavours and textures, while seared sea trout with ratte potatoes, samphire and wild garlic pistou transported us straight to the Med with this simple classic.
Desserts were incredible. Fondant oozed melted chocolate text book style, while crème brûlée had the signature crack of the spoon through caramelized sugar and a delicious rich custard, washed down with sweet dessert wines.
