The luxurious AVA Resort Cancun feels like it should be in the seven star category – up there with the Dubai elite. Having opened last June, AVA is a remarkable design project which stretches a full 1km from the north to south towers.
With every single on their 1622 rooms at the hotel boasting an incredible ocean view of the Caribbean, other unique features include the gigantic pool’s Crystal Lagoon Technology (the first of its kind in Mexico), walls made from chokum – an ancient Mayan material which keeps the building cool, a conference centre the size of an airport, and doing its bit for sustainability, the entire complex runs on solar power between 5.30pm and 6am.

Room categories at AVA Resort Cancun range from queen rooms to the penthouse suite with everything inbetween. Our ‘oceanfront king’ retreat featured a king bed, sofa bed and a two person spa tub on the expansive ocean view terrace. At 463 sq ft, this is the lowest room category and was still extremely spacious and totally luxurious. We loved the storage space, fluffy towels, complimentary products and clean, sleek design. Nautical nods included the round window designs, mood lighting and colour palette.
With 27 bar and restaurant offerings, AVA literally has everything you or your family could want. And because it’s all inclusive, that means taking full advantage of Konos – the ice cream shop with every flavour and topping imaginable, nightly restaurant bookings at eateries with celebrity chefs at the helm, indulging in the any-time-of-the-day or night coffee shop experience at Aroma, or simply ordering 24 hour room service, just because you can.

For adventure and activities, AVA Resort Cancun has also gone all out. You’ll find escape rooms, Formula 1 simulators, a bowling alley, kids club, kayaks, paddleboards, snorkellng, a giant inflatable, mini water park, golf course, laser tag… You could literally stay a month at AVA and still not get through everything!
For adults, there’s a range of gorgeous bars to choose from. We loved The Cocktail Bar – a swanky hangout with live music some nights and a cocktail list curated by world famous and award-winning Mexican mixologist Fatima León. Digit Bar features DJs on Sundays but if music and dancing is your thing, then DEZ nightclub with its jungle themed décor is open Monday to Saturday from 9pm. The DJs can even check the demographic of the guests staying at AVA so they can tailor the music accordingly.
If you prefer your poolside chill time without kids, AVA’s adult only pool is where it’s at and while we didn’t experience the legendary pool parties while we were there, we heard they’re a lot of fun! Some of the restaurants are also just for adults including the super popular Asian offering BAO, as well as delightful French eaterie Chez Moi and Italian inspired LIVO.

With Boris Pena Architects and Gensler Architects leading the design project, the overall vibe is chic coastal luxury, while each designer was assigned an outlet and given total creative freedom with the only stipulation being the colour palette of netural and muted tones. As you walk from one end to the other, you get to take in the true individuality of each restaurant or bar – each has its own stamp and all are truly beautiful in their own right.
Plaza MX is all day dining canteen offering authentic Mexican snacks, while The Food District has literally everything you can think of here from sushi and wraps to meats, soups, stews and pizza. If you want a true taste of Mexico, the taco shop located about half way along the walk way has the very best tacos – completely authentic as they’re served in Mexico and perfect for a snack any time of the day.
Copal’s modern Mexican cuisine from chef Lula Martin Del Campo is a must-try with her ethos to promote Mexico’s culinary culture with innovative twists. BAO meanwhile has a menu filled with dishes from all over Asia from Japan to South Korea.

After all the incredible food, you might just fancy the workout and wow, this is the place to do it. Ava Resort Cancun’s gym is gigantic. From a full timetable of classes to body composition tests, weights and a separate studio, it’s fully equipped with everything you could possibly need, no matter what kind of exercise you do. The spa meanwhile is in a class of its own. Also bigger than any spa I’ve been to, the corridors weave underground with several treatment rooms, a slick booking system and a waiting area which looks like a designer lounge in a mansion. We enjoyed full body massages while while we there – a dreamy combination of massage technique, relaxation, high quality aromatherapy oils and the option to stay and relax in the quiet areas before leaving.

AVA Resort Cancun is a truly unique hotel and a guaranteed magical holiday experience. Its private beach, multiple pools, shopping mall, activities and restaurants as well as the incredible design make it totally unique. Book here.
