If you thought darts were for beer swilling older guys, think again! Bored of the same nights out in Newcastle? Flight Club in Eldon Square offers something a little bit different from the norm – a social darts experience which is perfect for bringing friends together in a really cool setting.
First off, if you walk past Flight Club on the ground floor of Eldon Square (Monument side), then you’ll probably think it’s a bar – and a swanky one at that. Blending traditional pub decor with theatrical lighting and finishes, it looks like a modernised Victorian clubhouse incorporating playful, experiential twists.
Rich dark woods, a cinematic glow and beautiful stocked shelves of fancy bottles, along with high stools make it a destination bar in its own right, while speakeasy and fairground vibes bring the nostalgia.
So how is this darts but not as you know it? Well, if you’ve never played on a state-of-the-art oche, you’ll love the tonne of immersive games (there are seven), camera selfies, action replays and super fast responsive scoring so there’s no standing around trying to count up trebles and doubles.
Take a pic of each player on your phone, input the details on the screen and then select your game.
We went in hard with Demolition where each player starts with a tower stack and every time you score, you knock the tower down a bit further towards ground. Scoring zero with your last three darts is crucial or you’ll go bust. This is a great game to get a feel for the board and the speed and great practice so we’d definitely recommend you going with this one first if you’ve not played before.
Killer is seriously fun but requires a bit more skill and requires you to hit your assigned number three times in a row which then allows you to hit other players’ assigned numbers and ultimately knock them out of the game.
We also loved snakes and ladders which once you get your head around, is really good fun. Just hit the right numbers on the dart board to move up the ladders and be sure to avoid those pesky snakes which’ll move you down.
For food and drinks while you play, just hit the call button on the screen and one of the team will be straight over to take your order.
Feast on pizzas with delicious crispy bases (the pepperoni is our go-to) and signature cocktails (the salted caramel espresso martini is AMAZING), while you play, chat and enjoy the action replays on screen! The background tunes are also really good – guaranteed to get you moving as the drinks flow and the darts fly!
