The sense of ease begins the moment you arrive. After only a 15 minute drive from the airport, guests are welcomed with a mini minute massage at check-in, a thoughtful gesture that melts away travel fatigue and sets the tone for the calm, restorative days ahead. It’s a small indulgence that leaves you eager to experience more of what the spa has to offer.
We stayed in the newly refurbished Grand Marina Room, a spacious and beautifully designed retreat with a double balcony overlooking the yachts and shimmering waters of the marina. Floor to ceiling windows flood the room with natural light, highlighting the warm wooden furnishings and inviting you to slow down which was needed after a long travel day from the UK.
The space feels open yet intimate, with the softest bed and the most delicious handmade Malayan sugar biscuits. The large bathroom is another standout, featuring a deep bathtub for evening soaks and a rainfall shower that creates a spa-like calm, enhanced by the beautifully scented Jo Malone amenities.
The Bubbly Breakfast at The Danna is a global affair, offering everything from fresh pastries and tropical fruits to Asian classics and chef prepared à la carte dishes. Attentive service and an unhurried atmosphere allow you to savour each morning. The roti canai and French toast were highlights, especially when paired with a glass of morning fizz.
The infinity pool area is designed for pure relaxation, with plenty of sunbeds both around and in the water, ensuring you’ll always find a comfortable spot. Dedicated waiter service throughout the day adds to the effortless feel, offering refreshing drinks and light bites as you unwind.
If you enjoy the sand between your toes, its private beach with white sands and blue sea will be your best friend. We spent time watching the waves and reading our books in the hammocks.
Dining at The Danna is a journey in itself. Straits & Co, the hotel’s Peranakan restaurant, serves beautifully presented dishes rich with Malaysian heritage. We let our lovely server select our dishes and our standouts were the beautiful buttery lamb shank and prawn and pineapple curry, served family style.
It doesn’t stop there with the places you can dine, Planter’s offers European-inspired dining, while Terrace delivers Italian classics and fresh seafood in a chic poolside setting. The Verandah Lounge provides an elegant space for evening cocktails and live music, which we enjoyed whilst playing a game of cards. They also offer a daily happy hour between 5 and 7pm.
A major advantage of The Danna is its location. While it feels wonderfully secluded, it sits just moments from many of Langkawi’s most loved attractions, including the Cable Car and Sky Bridge, making it an ideal base for exploring the island.
