Newcastle Restaurants to Try: Sohe
Sohe on Osborne Road in Jesmond has a stunning interior with a futuristic circular bar and an elegant, stylish layout with an abundance of unique textures and fabrics to make up this stunning restaurant.
Comfy banquette seating provides a great view of the dining area and there’s a great range of cocktails to get the night started – try the Halong Bay or Singapore Sling. The drinks selection cleverly reflects the extensive range of dishes and their influences – expect anything from Thai to Korean.
The Chicken Galangal and Coconut Soup is as good as any you’d be served in Thailand, while the Massaman Lamb Curry is beautifully cooked with slow cooked lamb which falls apart in its rich creamy sauce.
Finish with a Lady Boy (cocktail) if you’ve room!
Newcastle Restaurants to Try: Buddha Lounge
The big gold Buddha is watching you while you eat at the Buddha Lounge, Tynemouth. You won’t believe what’s hidden behind the doorway if you’ve never been before, because the restaurant is completely hidden from street view!
With a decent sized bar area which is perfect for socialising and pre-drinks, the spacious dining room spans the ground floor and a mezzanine. With chandeliers and lanterns for an overstated Thailand style feel to it, the Buddha Lounge’s twinkling tree centre piece is an impressive main feature.
With a selection of soups, sushi, dim sum and Asian tapas style dishes to start, we loved the Barbecue Pork Char Siu Bar buns and the luxury California Crab Maki Rolls.
For mains, there’s everything from Pad Thai noodles to Black Angus Teriyaki steak and a range of curries including Chicken or Prawn Katsu Curry with steamed rice.
Take advantage of their Bottomless Brunch feast until 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays for just £29pp, with unlimited prosecco, or their 2 cocktails for £10 every Thursday – Sunday.

Newcastle Restaurants to Try: Botanist
The Botanist in the centre of Newcastle overlooking Grey’s Monument is a beauty. With popular bar area and farmhouse style kitchen, the camembert is a delight of a starter, served with warm chunks of toasted brown bread, while the calamari with creamy lemon mayo is all a great start to dinner.
Pies are amazing at The Botanist – go chicken and chorizo or the award winning sweet potato and spiced lentil pie, while the lamb and chickpea tagine is hearty and delicious served on a bed of Persian couscous with toasted almonds.
Dessert has to be the cookie dough – the best we have ever tasted with a dollop of toffee ice cream and swirls of sweet salted caramel.
Perfect for brunch, lunch or dinner with after drinks, The Botanist is a must-visit if you’re in the city.
