Staying at home doesn’t mean you can’t say in shape! Hida Shuleta – Spa Manager at The Landmark London has some great tips for taking care of yourself during lockdown.
Self Care
Hida’s favourite self care routine is to give yourself a mini facial during a hot bath which not only relaxes the body but treats the skin at the same time. The hot water will act as a steamer, opening up pores and allowing for a deep cleanse.
Yoga is a great home workout as it’s one of the safest ways of engaging the body and connecting the mind.
Self-care has never been so important. Waking up and feeling good ini our body and mind will help to change the pace of your day.
If you’re exercising at home, staying fit means making sure your immune system is ready to fight infections and bacteria. It’s essential to strengthen your immunity as much as possible to build up your army of white blood cells.
Diet
Including boosters in your daily meals is a great way to strengthen your immune system. Add a squeeze of citrus fruits to meals or in hot or cold water. Red bell peppers contain twice as much Vitamin C as citrus which are great for healthy skin and eyes. Broccoli is filled with vitamins A, C and E, minerals, antioxidants and fibre. It’s best not to cook them too much as high temperatures deplete the amount of nutrients. Garlic will help lower blood pressure while spinach is super rich in Vitamin C and contains plenty of antioxidants too.
Other power foods include ginger, kale, bananas, yoghurts, carrots, beans, turmeric, almonds, seafood, sunflower seeds, green tea, kiwi and papaya.
Exercise
Exercising at home is preferable during lockdown, but you can exercise outdoors whilst observing social distancing rules. The best exercises are running, cycling or walking and will give you the added benefit of absorbing some Vitamin D from the sun, to boost your mood and immune system, whilst calorie burning.
Play your favourite playlist and hit the park at least three times a week which will really help your body and mind. If you’re new to running, start at your own pace and follow some fitness guidelines.
If you’re isolating indoors you can work out by walking up and down the stairs, by cooking a healthy meal in the kitchen or by talking on the phone. Use a fitness tracker so you can see your progress.
Online fitness classes like YMCA 360 have a wide range of classes for you to exercise in the comfort of your own home. With everything from yoga to bootcamp and weight lifting, set yourself a daily goal and stick to it.
