Liverpool is now firmly on the map as one of the UK’s most cosmopolitan cities Offering a huge choice of trendy cafes, bars and restaurants on Albert Dock, this part of the city is constantly busy and vibrant. So it seems totally fitting that the brand new Pullman Liverpool Monarch Quay should be built right here in the middle of it all – a tranquil haven of cool just a stones throw away from the Wheel of Liverpool and all the hustle and bustle of the waterfront.
A stunning reception area greets you on arrival at The Pullman Liverpool. The kind that looks like it belongs in the glossy pages of a luxury interior design magazine. Check in is simple. Staff have ipads and you’re directed to a cosy booth to chill out in while key cards are arranged. Up to our room, we discovered a deluxe corner room with an amazing view of the wheel and plenty of natural light courtesy of the many floor to ceiling windows. With tea and coffee making facilities, fluffy robes and slippers, bathroom shower gels and shampoos, a flat screen TV and minibar and a really stylish, contemporary design, we were really pleased with the room we’d been given. We mulled this over while sitting overlooking the incredible views of the docks (from the adjacent window) and put together a plan for the evening courtesy of the hotel’s free high speed wifi.
Having made a 7 o’clock dinner reservation, we made our way down to The Pullman Liverpool’s restaurant – Dukes, which we were surprised to see was quite quiet. Apparently that’s really very rare because the Pullman’s super close proximity to the Liverpool Arena & Convention Centre and the Exhibition Centre Liverpool, make it a top choice for dinner on the night of a show – likewise the hotel is almost always at full capacity. Grateful for the chilled out vibe and the really amazing staff (Michael was simply the best), we perused the menu and took in the calming effects of the restaurant’s design. Grey and blue hues punctuated with shades of orange, stunning fresh purple flowers and pretty, delicate drop lighting against contrasting modern metal partitions. It really is a truly beautiful brasserie.
The menu, sounded delicious, and quite fancy by a hotel’s standards (surprising too, to find this is classed a four star hotel when it could easily be a five star). Consisting of classic British cuisine, the food all came out so well presented, that I had to take three or four photos of every single dish! It’s the kind of presentation you’d expect from a Michelin starred restaurant as plate after plate came out from the theatre style open kitchen, each as impressive as the last. The scallops starter was simply divine and the main dish, beautifully fresh lamb with fluffy roast potatoes and perfectly sweet carrots was the perfect example of a seasonal dish with fresh produce. We hear Duke’s Restaurant are in the process of putting together their brand new menu, so we’d highly recommend a visit as soon as it’s available!
After a decadent chocolate dessert, we made our way over to Duke’s Vinoteca area – a system whereby you load a card with credit and can pour your own wines from their diverse range by the glass. It’s a fantastic way of sampling different wines by the glass and perhaps discovering something you’d never normally order before! There’s also something extremely satisfying about pressing that button to pour your own glass of wine!
Bursting at the seams, we decided it was time to call it a night and luckily we didn’t have to go very far, although it was quite some time before we finally got to sleep, because the stunning views from our room were just far too good to ignore!
