A whimsical and enchanting stay awaits at The Tempus in Northumberland – a beautiful boutique hotel, bar and restaurant converted from a collection of outbuildings on the 700 acre Charlton Hall Estate. Occupying a wonderful location with close proximity to both the stunning beaches of Alnmouth Beach and the quaint market town of Alnwick, The Tempus is a great place to escape for the weekend, or longer.
33 incredibly stylish bedrooms ooze quirky creativity, while the restaurant and bar serves up seasonal British classics and innovative signature cocktails. Just in time for summer there’s a brand new Tipi on the estate with a programme of exciting events scheduled for the warmer months. With screenings of the UEFA Euros 2024, as well as a Stargazing event in partnership with Kielder Observatory there’s also a Wellness Retreat happening in September.
The 18th Century stone barns include the Tempus Main Hotel, Farm Cottage, Farmhouse, Pole Barn and Lookout all designed by Edinburgh’s renowned design house Jeffrey Interiors. Fantastical wall prints, velvet sofas, gold fixtures, leopard print wardrobes.. No two rooms are the same, yet each exudes eclectic luxury.
With 17 bedrooms in the main hotel, there are superior king rooms which are dog friendly, benefitting from direct access on to the Tempus Terrace on the ground floor. Boutique and junior suites meanwhile are spacious and comfortable with ensuite bathrooms, walk-in showers and freestanding baths. King rooms have accessible options available, and family rooms feature a king-sized bed and two twin beds – suitable for the whole family.
The Farmhouse, Farm Cottage, Pole Barn and The Lookout are a great option for family trips, groups of friends or hen parties ranging from one bed to six bedrooms with prices starting from just £150 per room or £180 for dinner, bed and breakfast.
The main restaurant is located in The Orangery with Head Chef Alistair Weightman at the helm showcasing the region’s culinary heritage with food which is guaranteed to take guests on a journey through the flavours of Northumberland with locally sourced delights. From breakfast through to lunch and an evening a la carte menu, there’s classics such as fish and chips, club sandwich or heirloom tomatoes with burrata as well as steak cuts, rainbow trout and scallop and cray mousse. Afternoon Tea is also served Wednesday to Saturday 2:30pm to 4:45pm offering up a tempting range of sweets, savouries and scones.
If cocktails are you things, the mesmerising bar area embedded in a canopy of foliage is the perfect spot to enjoy a New York Cosmo, classic Margarita or House Martini, plus there’s a great selection of wines, beers, mocktails and soft drinks to sip on. The Tempus’ newest addition is The Tipi which will take centre stage this summer. Think boho aesthetic, cosy fire pits and al fresco evenings spent with family and friends. Open every Friday and Saturday from 4-9pm, guests will be able to enjoy wood fired pizzas, alongside a fully stocked outdoor bar.
