If you’re looking for a little family escape in the UK that doesn’t cost the earth, then look no further! Located near Windsor, Burnham Beeches in Buckinghamshire is situated within a peaceful green space. Ideal for anyone looking for a relaxing trip away that’s also child friendly. Plus, if you like afternoon tea, then you’re definitely in for a treat.
As you approach the hotel, this 1700s hunting lodge surrounded by beautiful greenery looks incredible – a gazebo placed within the grounds is the perfect spot for photos and the perfect setting for an outdoor wedding.
We checked in at reception where we collected our key and headed to our room. We were allocated a family room on the ground floor to make accessibility easy for us. The room was spacious with a large bed, cosy sofa and table and chairs. They offered a travel cot too which was perfect for our little toddler!
After a room tour and refresh we headed for afternoon tea in the bright and beautiful Tea Room bathed in pale pinks and greys with luxurious furnishings – very Bridgerton! Overlooking the picturesque grounds, we couldn’t have hoped for a better spot in which to enjoy a scrumptious afternoon tea looking out on to a tapered garden!
Afternoon tea offered the traditional with a twist. Scotch eggs were a unique touch along with sandwiches, scones and cakes to fill our China plates, not forgetting the endless tea and coffee! I have to say it was all absolutely delicious.
After all the yummy food we headed off to explore the pool, leisure club and Soul Spa. There were all the elements you would need for an afternoon swim, pool, sauna, jacuzzi and loungers. After a packed afternoon, we were ready for a bit of relaxation, so we headed back to our room to enjoy some peace and quiet before dinner.
Dinner is served in a different feature room – The Oak Room to give a unique dining experience compared to afternoon tea. The team were very helpful and friendly sorting out different menus and chairs to suit our little toddler. They were attentive and helpful the entire evening.
The menu looked great! For starter we feasted on twice baked cheese souffle and mussels on toast, followed by a ribeye steak with triple cooked chips and cornfed chicken breast with smoke pomme puree, king oyster mushroom and diane sauce.
To finish we had sticky toffee pudding with ice cream which was incredible and the spiced apple and blackberry pavlova. Oh, my word I cannot express how good the food was! Hats off to the chef! If you’re a foodie this one is for you!
We had a stroll around the grounds whilst our dinner settled before bedtime with other families also out and about taking in the stunning grounds before bed – it made the hotel seem super friendly and inclusive.
The next morning, we woke up bright and early eager to see what was for breakfast. The set up was incredible and again breakfast was situated in a different dining environment – Brasserie 1727. They had all the choices of pastries, hot food, fresh fruit. Everything you could wish for.
As well as being situated in a great location for exploring the area, I have to say the food was one of the best assets of the hotel along with the friendly staff member making our visit easy, relaxing and enjoyable. Windsor meanwhile has many sites and historical places to see as well, of course the magnificant Windsor Castle which is an absolute must visit, plus plenty of quaint cafes and shops.
