If you’re heading to York for a day at the races, then Delta Hotels by Marriott York is the perfect choice. Nestled just outside the historic city and backing directly onto York Racecourse, this hotel is in a dream location for racegoers and anyone looking for a relaxing weekend escape. Whether you’re travelling with family, friends or treating yourself to a solo stay, the combination of comfort, views, and its proximity to both the city and the racecourse make it an excellent place to base yourself.
Set back off the main road, Delta Hotels by Marriott York is in a tranquil, peaceful setting. The hotel’s al fresco terrace and perfectly manicured gardens offer incredible views across the course, plus there’s an outdoor terrace for al fresco dining in the warmer months along with picnic benches dotted throughout the grounds. A blissful spot to unwind with a drink in hand as you soak up the atmosphere and scenery.
Inside, the hotel’s interiors are stylish with an airy, modern lobby bathed in natural light and a relaxed sense of calm, while check-in is smooth and efficient. It’s the kind of space that instantly sets the tone for a restful stay and the rooms flow nicely with the restaurant located at the back of the hotel and private function rooms to the front.

One of the standout features of the hotel has to be the Grandstand Rooms. These spacious rooms come with floor-to-ceiling windows and large private balconies that look out directly over the racecourse track. Waking up to those uninterrupted views is something really special, especially if you can catch the morning sun with your first cup of coffee of the day.

The Cast Iron Grill and Bar area are brilliant for guests who don’t want to venture too far away from the hotel, yet still want a good quality meal. It’s a welcoming space for all – couples, kids, families and groups of friends and the menu offers some good options including starters, small plates, sharers and mains. Sriracha and honey chargrilled chicken skewers are served with lime and coconut yoghurt, homemade nachos are a plentiful pile of goodness, and the wild mushroom on toast was so flavourful it tasted meaty. Served with caramelised onion chutney to compliment the mushrooms, I’d definitely recommend it as a starter. Beef short rib was tasty but could’ve done with a slightly richer gravy while the half roast chicken was on the drier side. The menu also features fillet steak from the grill, baby back ribs, fish and chips and tikka masala, so a good range of dishes.

Breakfast is also served in this room and has a good buffet selection with hot options, pastries and fresh juices. The menu was particularly accommodating for my gluten free friend and the chef even took time out from his busy service to chat with us directly about what she could and couldn’t eat which I thought was a really nice and personable touch for a big and busy hotel.

If you’ve time to explore the wellness area of Delta York, you won’t be disappointed. There’s a good sized pool – perfect for a pre-breakfast or evening swim, plus there’s a full spa with a range of treatments and even a salon if you’re heading to the races and want to book in for some pampering beforehand.
Being just a 10 minute drive from the centre of York means you can dip into the city’s charm and culture with ease, while still enjoying the serenity of a retreat-style stay – experiencing the best of the both worlds.
Whether you’re visiting with friends for a race weekend, bringing the family for a city break, or planning an event with a view, the Delta Hotels by Marriott York offers comfort, convenience, and an unbeatable location. You can check out York Racecourse’s race calendar here and book your stay, here.
