Enjoy Pre or Post Flight Luxury at the London Marriott Heathrow Hotel

Living in Newcastle, we often travel down to Heathrow Airport for our long-haul flights, but we’d never stayed in a hotel there. Revolutionising the late night landing experience on our last trip though, we checked in at the London Marriott Heathrow Hotel and loved the easy journey from the airport and the comfortable stay when we got there.

Getting There

So if you’re flying in or out of Heathrow, the London Marriott Heathrow Hotel is just a quick shuttle away from the terminals, or in a taxi for less than £10. It’s a 9 minute drive from terminal 3 and located on Bath Road which is just slightly set back from the main road. There’s a convenient slope at the entrance to the hotel which makes it super easy if you’re travelling with luggage. The Elizabeth Line is London’s newest tube line and it stops at all Heathrow terminals so you’re well connected to the rest of London too.

It’s close enough that you can roll out of bed and into the departure lounge, but far enough away that you don’t feel like you’re sleeping under the actual runway. Brilliant if you’ve got early flights, late flights, delayed flights… or if you’re like me and think holidays start the second you leave your house!

Rooms

The rooms are exactly what you need when you’re super jet-lagged and just need to crash in comfort. We were really impressed with the soundproofing and couldn’t hear any planes flying over whatsoever. Buttery-soft linen on the bed, a cocoon-like comfortable mattress, smart TV, high speed wifi and our spacious bathroom had a powerful shower that blasted away some of the airport fatigue and the ‘just sat on a flight for 12 hours’ feeling. Executive rooms are bigger and include a chaise longue and a desk area along with plenty of space to open your suitcase without turning the room into an obstacle course!

Design

The Marriott team clearly decided an airport hotel doesn’t need to feel like an airport hotel and the result is very cool and well considered. The interiors are polished but relaxed, with a grown-up, contemporary style: warm woods, muted tones, huge metallic accents and pockets of cosy corners for your last minute or early morning laptop sessions, lattes, or lazy lounging. The lobby feels lively without being loud and Carluccios occupies a large space without feeling at all intrusive. There’s even a gift shop selling last minutes essentials just in case you’ve forgotten anything (like your suitcase!)

Food & Drink

Arriving late and very hungry, we were pleased to see Carluccios conveniently tucked inside the hotel. Dinner was classic comfort Italian and we enjoyed enormous pizzas while glugging big glasses of juicy red wine to try and trick our body clocks into thinking it was bedtime!

While staying in a higher grade room at London Marriott Heathrow Hotel, you get to enjoy the compliments of the Executive Lounge, which is a quieter, calmer experience than the main restaurant or lobby and includes free snacks, soft drinks, beers, wines and cheeses. It’s a nice spot to unwind, catch up on emails, or enjoy a moment of calm.

While you can enjoy breakfast in the Executive Lounge, we opted for Carluccios and were really impressed with the offering. We ordered tall glasses of yoghurt, granola and fruit followed by the full English experience. The service was excellent, the coffee was fresh and strong and the hash browns were perfect – crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside.

Anything Else?

Service is genuinely lovely – warm and efficient. The lady next to us at check in was having internet issues with her laptop and the staff were patient and helpful. The gym is well-equipped (although we didn’t use it during this visit!) and there’s plenty of lounge space for that relaxed luxurious feel amid the electric energy which fills a hotel that’s next to an airport!

The hotel also showcases ‘The ‘Food Waste Lab’, which innovatively repurposes food production waste, while chef Anna crafts soaps from used coffee grounds and citrus peels, creating unique gifts for guests – how cool is that?
