An hour’s drive from Phuket airport into the more chilled, tranquil area of Khao Lak, you’ll find one of Thailand’s most special hotels – The Sarojin. I first visited in 2016 and the tranquility, calm and peacefulness which I felt as soon as I stepped through the lobby and looked out across the lily ponds is a feeling I’ve never forgotten!
I’m pleased to report that that feeling of pure contentment returned as I enjoyed a sparkling rice wine and was greeted by Kade, Moi and Aoi. Despite the years, and Covid, The Sarojin still sparkles and captivates its guests. It’s a boutique five star resort set in lush greenery – a private oasis hideaway that feels like the best kept secret to the residents who are lucky to call it their home for a few days, a week (or even longer if they’re really lucky!)
The Sarojin carries the legend of Lady Sarojin along with its exceptional hospitality from the second you step into the private transfer car at the airport until the moment you leave. Cool drinks, beers, wifi and a comfortable drive are all part of the service. The story goes that Lady Sarojin inherited the house and began offering the most incredible experience to its guests, that travellers from far and wide would make the journey to stay here. And the multi award-winning resort certainly lives up to the legend.
Our jacuzzi pool suite is nothing short of spectacular. Incredibly spacious, it includes a huge living room area with opulent, expensive furniture, a luxurious bedroom with super king size four poster bed, open bathroom in a garden setting with stand-alone bath tub, two toilets and two showers – one inside and one out so you can really be at one with nature.
The main feature has to be the big terrace overlooking the lush tropical gardens and boasting a four person heated whirl pool pavillion which is high up on the first floor for extra privacy. All the mod cons are also included – Bluetooth speakers, wifi, tea and coffee making facilities and even a complimentary bath bomb to really get your jacuzzi relaxation going with some added fizz.
Jacuzzi pool suites offer complimentary a la carte breakfast in the stunning Ficus Restaurant and it’s available to eat any time through the day up until 6pm. The interiors are beautiful with Mediterranean inspired cuisine on the menu. In the evening, The Edge restaurant on the beach serves up Thai and contemporary Mediterranean cuisine. The unlimited menu at a very reasonable set price is brilliant value for money and means you can order whatever you fancy until you’re full. We loved the sweet massaman and green curries, gigantic shrimp tempura in light crispy batter with sweet chilli sauce, chunky chicken satay skewers with lots of nutty goodness, and the Thai beef salad, fresh and satisfying, with perfectly cooked medium cooked meat.
The beach restaurant setting on White Sand beach is pretty special and twinkly lights after an incredible sunset make it the perfect place to sit in the evenings enjoying the warm sea breeze and watching night fall. During the day though, the beach (which is directly accessed from The Sarojin), is a comfortable place to tan and chill with ice cold glasses of water, slices of watermelon and plenty of clean towels on the loungers (including optional umbrellas for shade). There’s a long jetty for confident sea swimmers, but beware the jelly fish – they’re only little but they did sting my chin! It’s a picture perfect postcard view with miles of white beach and crystal waters.
If you’re not a fan of getting sand between your toes, The Sarojin’s swimming pool is spectacular. The sheer size of the pool ensures it never feels crowded, while luxurious beach cabanas and loungers which surround it, are perfect for ultimate relaxation. If massage treatments are more your thing, The Pathways spa offers a range of gorgeous treatments.
Perhaps what The Sarojin excels at, beyond all of the top notch hospitality, is its personal experience offerings. Whether that’s chartering a private yacht trip, setting up a romantic dinner in a secluded area of the beach, or hiring out the entire boutique hotel, The Sarojin’s ‘Imagineer’ can make it happen, setting it apart from other hotels. No matter what you’re after to make your holiday extra special, it can be arranged.
After a second visit, The Sarojin continues to hold a very special place in my heart. If you’re travelling to Thailand – especially as a couple, it really is a beautiful, romantic spot in which to make happy memories.
