If you chat to anyone in Portugal about the stunning coastal town of Cascais, there’s no doubt they’ll have heard of the iconic Hotel Cascais Miragem Health and Spa.
The luxurious property occupies an enviable location in Cascais with uninterrupted views out to sea. Not only does the hotel know a thing or two about hospitality, the facilities boast an incredible Water Lounge in addition to the usual gym, spa and outdoor Infinity Edge Pool.
With an opulent jaw dropping lobby, sky high ceilings and grand staircase, walking into the hotel Cascais Miragem health and spa is like walking into a palace. The staff are wonderful and have you checked in with luggage sent to the room within minutes, while the glass elevators allow you to see each floor as you head skywards – every one immaculate and impressive in their design.
We were pleased to discover our room was located on the same floor as the Water Lounge wellness and relaxation area, meaning we could pad down the corridor in our slippers and gowns without having to get in the lift – we’d definitely recommend you asking for a room on the sixth floor.
With The Miragem’s rooms and suites boasting views of the hotel’s gardens, Cascais town or the sea, we loved our spacious terrace on the hotel’s front looking right out across the Atlantic Ocean with views of the infinity pool below.
While the rooms were decorated in a classic style than contemporary (warm wood and earthy tones) we loved the amount of light that the floor-to-ceiling balcony glass allowed in, and our bathroom was truly luxurious – marble floors, a generous sized bath tub, huge separate shower and high end toiletries.
The Hotel Miragem’s Water Lounge is a fabulous feature of this five star hotel. If nothing makes you happier than floating in a peaceful salt lake, relaxing in the steam room or sauna, enjoying rejuvenating shower jets and ice fountains, (not forgetting a good old fashioned swim), then you’ll feel like you’re in paradise with access to all these facilities. There’s a relaxation area tucked away inside the Water Lounge so it’s very easy to while away the hours here, while there is also a further warmer swimming pool, so if you’re travelling with the family, it’s also suitable for younger children.
As with most five star hotels, the restaurants are often more widely known in the area for their fine dining experience and the Gourmet restaurant at hotel Cascais Miragem health and spa is no exception. We enjoyed absolutely impeccable service from the staff at Gourmet, all whilst enjoying stunning views across the ocean and the bright lights of Cascais town. With an olive oil trolley so you can select from a range of high quality oils to dip your warm fluffy bread into, the standards for dinner were set pretty early on!
We enjoyed a range of delicious courses, each one presented beautifully and it was obvious that a lot of thought had gone into the sourcing of each and every ingredient. Al dente tortellini with a pork cheek confit and fresh basil was elevated by the Madeira wine sauce with notes of toffee and roasted nuts, while my partner’s sea soup starter with tomato and crispy shrimp had that luxurious consistency and rich flavour – harmonious with the tomato without being overpowering. Poached turbot served in citronella and ginger lifted the fish , while the pumpkin cream added some sweetness alongside the black olive caramel. We especially loved the amuse bouches between courses which were a surprise from the chef, and every course tasted great with the bottle of Quinta do Vale Meão Meandro Douro Tinto, selected by the sommelier. We finished with a delightful cheeseboard offering a range of Portugese cheeses and a Vintage Messias 2011 which was the perfect tipple.
Breakfast at the hotel’s Oasis Terrasse is impressive and there’s a full range of cold meats, fish and cheeses, cereals, fruit juices, breads, full cooked selection and a range of pastries. Before we knew it, we were 4 plates in, bringing all the energy for another day exploring all that pretty Cascais has to offer. While it was still a little chilly for al fresco dining when we visited, the outside tables around the pool looked like a great spot to enjoy a morning coffee – a wonderful setting to start to the day as we head into the summer months.
Our stay at Cascais Miragem Health & Spa was nothing short of fabulous, from service, to location and facilities, it was a true five star experience. Book your stay here. To check out Luxe Bible’s other reviews in Portugal, click here.
