Yes, you read that right. London is ballin’. It’s a well-respected and wealthy player in many worlds, including fashion, and that’s why London is, indeed, ballin’. In fact, it’s doing quite well when it comes to young fashionistas combining their culture with the latest trends in this bustling metropolis. With the British Fashion Council’s NewGen scheme working its magic and introducing the new wave of names in the industry, we have two up-and-coming individuals in the fashion world for you to keep an eye out for.
Chet Lo
With his statement avant-garde pieces and celebrity following, Chet Lo is considered a mainstay in the fashion industry. Famous for his knitwear corsets and dresses, just to name a few garms, Lo made his debut in the 2022 London Fashion Week.
Lo showcased designs that were influenced by his East Asian heritage. Also focusing on sustainability, Lo went on to present denim trousers that had been designed in partnership with sustainable denim maker, Isko.
He has his own e-store where fashion followers can get their hands on his latest collections, as well as bespoke items. Lo’s clothing can even be found in Selfridges and Numero Trenta in Milan.
Sinéad O’Dwyer
Already established through her work about the human body and our perception thereof, Sinéad O’Dwyer has encouraged discussions on body positivity and inclusivity. She continued with this using a diverse cast of models in her London Fashion Week SS23 collection.
Without a webshop of her own, O’Dwyer’s label appears on independent online retailers, like Ssense and The Cool Hour in LA. However, most of her collection appears on the Hong Kong e-commerce platform Goxip.
Fashion Impacts Everything
To some degree, this is true, as fashion features in a lot, if not all industries. Take a look at the film industry, where there have been various films to do with fashion. These include The Devil Wears Prada and Yves Saint Laurent, both about the fashion world, albeit in different takes, designed to appeal to audiences around the world. Then there’s the sports industry, yes sports. Football teams have at least two new kits designed every season, featuring the latest trends when it comes to sportswear.
Let’s not forget games. There are various games that incorporate fashion, although this is more commonly referred to as virtual cosmetics. These allow players to make characters more unique, with some providing clothing, hair and make-up as typical fashion options. Even online gaming sites, like casinos and bingo, have games that are related to the fashion world, such as Ballin’. Players get to show why they’re at the top of their game, through their play, by living the ballin’ life in the game itself.
