If you can’t go to the fiesta, bring the fiesta to you. It turns out that there is a little bit of Mexico in Chelsea and in fact it’s just past the town hall, at a restaurant aptly named Mezcalito.
When you arrive at Mezcalito, you would never guess that there is such a cavernous space at the back. But, once you walk past the bar, you arrive in the inside-outside area which is kitted out with small tables, drinks tables and more garlands than you could shake a piñata stick at. A word of advice when choosing the bottomless brunch option, it is definitely a more boozy late lunch, as we arrived at midday and were alone for the vast majority of our sitting.
However, credit should definitely be given to the staff because they really helped it compete with a Tulum Beach Party, they handed out sombreros and didn’t miss a beat when topping up. The bottomless brunch option was simply fantastic value for money at £35 a head for endless drinks including Frozen Margaritas, Prosecco, Rose & Corona Bottles for a whole 90 minutes. We stuck to the margaritas and had absolutely no regrets – they were the perfect amount of sweet, salty and tangy, and of course free flowing!
There is a wide variety of food on the menu including calamares, chicken wings, sweet potato fries and a whole range of tacos, burritos and quesadillas stuffed with pulled beef and chicken tinga. Although, there was vegetarian options, Mezcalito is probably best suited to meat eaters. The food is not particularly authentic, but this is remedied by the staff, drinks, atmosphere and location. One option I would be interested to try in future was a Mexican hybrid of the beloved bao bun which could be an interesting concept!
The food came quickly and was in adequate options to line the stomach ahead of excessive drinks. Mezcalito shone through with a zesty guacamole and various nachos options. Also, it was fantastic to see jackfruit used as a vegetarian substitute for a pulled meat and would like to see Mezcalito continue to explore such options.
As well as Tulum Bottomless Brunch every Saturday, the tequila and mezcal cocktail bar also offers all you can eat tacos on Tuesdays and live Mariachi every Wednesday.
Overall, if you’re looking for a fantastic bottomless brunch which is different from the numerous options and are ready for some holiday vibes, go to Mezcalito – you really will be ‘Livin La Vida Loca’.
