Last week we were invited to try My Delhi’s brand new dishes and what an experience it was!
The new menu from Executive Chef Gaurav features authentic flavours with modern twists on real Indian classics drawing on the original recipes with small innovations to suit the British palate.
My Delhi’s cocktails are surprisingly excellent. I love lychee martinis so went for the Emperor’s Rose made with vodka and lychee liqueur with a hint of rose and cardamom – a perfect blend of the sweet stuff and sprit.
To start, we tried the brand new dynamite chicken – crispy fried chicken topped with rich and punchy Szechuan aioli which was so addictive! We loved the combo of crunch and fire – an original dish served on the street with a British twist. Paneer is one of my favourite meat alternatives and marinated in My Delhi’s secret recipe in-house firecracker sauce, the Firecracker Paneer proved to be another surefire must-order.
Creamy methi paneer and Aslam smoked chicken were accompanied by dum pulao rice and we added on a big fluffy heavy-on-the-garlic naan which was just divine. The methi paneer is another new addition to the menu and honestly, this is one curry you just have to try. Again the paneer was perfect, and the sauce rich with fenugreek and mustard flavours, but surprisingly light and mild and at the same time. And WOW the Aslam smoked chicken, well, they definitely saved the best until last. Arriving in a bell jar to keep in all the charred tandoori smoke, when the lid came off, the most incredible smell was wafted around the restaurant! This traditional New Delhi dish is somewhat of a signature and is literally served with a butter gravy. Butter and chicken – that’s it! But here, My Delhi have elevated the gravy so it’s rich and creamy and oh so luxurious (so definitely plenty of butter here too!). I’d go as far as to say I’ve never tasted chicken like it. Unbelievably flavoursome and delicious.
My Delhi has restaurants in Newcastle and Sunderland. The new menu is available now – check out our photos of the experience here and for more Newcastle restaurant reviews, click here.
