Porte Noire King’s Cross – the uber trendy wine bar, restaurant and shop from Idris Elba and David Farber is nestled snuggly among Coal Drop’s Yard’s many boutique shops and foodie outlets.
If you love your wine and want food which pairs beautifully with each and every glass, then you absolutely need to visit! Open every day of the week with a cool late cocktail vibe on weekends, Sunday afternoons were just made for Porte Noire’s new French inspired Sunday brunch.

You’ll be spoiled for choice with their incredible range of quality wines and champagnes (with lots by the glass), while the food on their new menu is totally heavenly.

Start with a mimosa or a Bloody Mary, grab a gorgeous glass of crisp Sauvignon Blanc or a flute of fizz and tuck into half a dozen oysters with all the condiments. Pick at Cerignola olives which are chunky and juicy, forage your way through a mountain of truffle fries and pecorino, or feast on fresh sourdough with luxurious umeboshi butter…

Go for eggs three ways – we’d whole heartedly recommend the Croque Madame, while there’s also Eggs Royale with mountains of fresh smoked salmon and rich scrumptious hollandaise sauce, or try the Baked Eggs with Veg which comes in the pan, bubbling in all of its beautifully fresh deliciousness.

With a range of additional specials written on the board, you can ensure that every time you visit you can have something different! The main brunch menu meanwhile is substantial enough, with a cheese selection, charcuterie offering, and the very French Tartiflette – a dish made with potatoes, reblochon cheese, cream and lardons. Artisanal French Terrine also looked divine and is definitely on the list to order next time!
Take in the surrounding and indulge in the beauty of the slick, stylish interiors with their Mediterranean feel, and while Porte Noire might certainly be owned by two stars – of the film and the wine world, you can never detract from the fact the food and wine at Porte Noire most definitely speaks for itself.
David Farber of Connaught Wine Cellars has chosen an impeccable range of wines to showcase and indeed after you’ve tried some of them for yourself, you can buy them from the shop on your way out.
For a truly memorable dining experience with wines to die for, Porte Noire is most definitely the place…
