Oh BungaTINI, we love you just as much as your bigger brother. Bunga Bunga’s more relaxed all-day eaterie is nestled in the middle of fabulous Theatreland on Drury Lane, making it the perfect place to drop into any time of the day and experience some true pizza luxury!
With a casual bar and stool concept downstairs and a traditional trattoria feel to the BungaTINI mezzanine upstairs, the menu includes some sensational pizzas from their wood fired oven complete with crispy base and mouthwateringly delicious toppings. The Quattro Formaggi (£9) is my absolute favourite and if you’re a cheese lover, you’ll definitely not be disappointed by this gorgeous pizza creation. Dripping with more melted cheese than an entire fromagerie, as the name suggests, you get four times the cheese – mozzarella, gorgonzola, taleggio and grana padano, mountains of it, all stringy and chewy and oh so moreish! Never one to shy away from Italian food, I think this is a main to be enjoyed alongside another piece of Italian heaven and BungaTINI has just the thing in the form of their amazing Aubergine alla parmigiana (£7), rich with tomato sauce topping (and more cheese), with perfectly soft aubergines underneath.
Alongside their amazing selection of pizzas, there’s a fab choice of lasagne and ravioli mains, and be sure to check out the daily specials – when we visited, there was a beautiful melt-in-the-mouth slow cooked beef which my friend ordered (ensuring copious amounts of food envy!).
A great way to enjoy some of the starters on the menu is to grab one of their boards – quality antipasto with bruschetta, buffalo mozzarella and to-die-for white truffle and mushroom arancini on the Giardino board (£12), or the option of Finocchiona salami, pecorino and yummy fennel sausage arancini on the BungaTINI board. I actually forewent the boards in favour of the Pappa al Pomodoro – a beautifully plump lump of burrata served on top of tangySan Marzano tomatoes (another absolute must-have.)
The staff, as you’d expect, are our favourite kind, oozing enthusiasm when it comes to yourlove of Italian food, and as with all of Inception Group’s outlets, the team always look like they’re having far too much of a good time to be at work!
With cocktails, coffees and some superb wines and aperitifs, BungaTINI really is the place to drop into anytime of the day or night. Open ’til 11 Monday to Wednesday, 1am on Saturdays and 10pm on Sundays, you can enjoy fixed lunch and aperitivo special menus, and now a bottomless Bunga brunch on the weekends! And of course you know what’s lurking behind the door at the back don’t you?! If you don’t, click hereto read what lies beneath!
