If you’re looking for a city retreat that combines timeless elegance with stylish and contemporary flair, The Queens Hotel in Leeds’ City Square should be your number one choice!
Nestled in the heart of Leeds and just a stones throw from the conveniently located train station, this iconic establishment has been a symbol of luxury since 1937 and counts Princess Grace of Monaco, Cary Grant, and Nelson Mandela among its prestigious guests!

The Queens’ prime location means that you’re just steps away from Leeds’ vibrant array of shops, bars, and restaurants. We visited in December and being a stone’s throw from the beautiful Christmas market in City Square in December was truly magical. A twinkling 45ft Christmas Tree was the view from our city view superior room and at night with the lights out, it looked incredible and felt oh so festive!
After undergoing a £16 million refurbishment in 2021, The Queens has managed to retain its original art deco charm, while managing to blend it seamlessly with modern interiors and contemporary design.

The glamorous lobby screams sophistication with rich textures, sharp art deco accents, persian rugs, gleaming leather chesterfield sofas and a regal bookcase backdrop. It’s the ideal spot to meet up with friends, or enjoy a moment of quiet with a coffee and a book.

Meanwhile our room had everything we needed for a city stay and more. Those fabulous views out across the square reminded us just how central we were, the full length free standing mirror was most welcome (as a lot of hotels don’t have them!), and we loved the super king sized bed and the ability to make a Nespresso coffee from the machine after waking from an incredibly deep sleep. Blackout curtains were a definite bonus too!
The bathroom was huge and also lovely and bright which is always great for getting ready and applying ones makeup. The shower although over the bath, had super strong pressure which is always a plus the morning after a night out in Leeds town!

While we didn’t eat in The Queen’s Restaurant, we did take time to peruse the menu which is varied with something for everyone from gyozas to salt and pepper squid small plates, to mains of Scottish Wagyu burgers and seafood linguine. As it’s right by the station, it was constantly full during our stay with a great vibe. The bar is super chic, oozing with more art deco accents and it’s a great spot to enjoy pre or post dinner cocktails, wines or beers, or to grab a quick drink before hopping on the train.

Being an independent hotel, The Queens manages to maintain its distinctive character while delivering excellent service. Whether it’s the festive magic of the Square, the proximity to premier shopping and dining, or the refined elegance of the hotel itself, The Queens Hotel is a hotel I’d be happy to visit time and time again when visiting this cosmopolitan city.
