Maybe you’re scared of booking a treatment with an occasion in mind and then still looking bruised and puffy on the day of your event? We hear you – and we’ve been there, so here’s the ultimate breakdown of what to book – and when. Save this one for later!
Tweakments to Book in Advance (Longer Turnaround Time)
Surgical: Tweakments you should book in advance are basically anything surgical. If you’re planning on going under the knife, be sure to chat with your surgeon about downtime and any other restrictions that your surgery may impose on you post-procedure. You may need to consider taking time off work, recovery time, downtime, healing time, check-ups and any potential revision surgeries.
Dental Treatments: Great smiles can take time! If you’re considering braces or other corrective procedures, be sure to get a treatment time estimate from your practitioner. Fast braces and aligners can deliver expedited results (6 month smiles, for example!) But every smile is unique and requires a consultation.
Hair Loss and Restoration Treatments: Results can take a few months to be noticeable if you’re going in for hair loss or restoration treatments, so if you’re worried about hair loss or thinning, getting started on your hair loss journey sooner rather than later can help ensure you feel your most confident in time for your planned events.
Non-surgical Tweakments Requiring Downtime: These treatments pack a punch (but the results are more than worth it!) You’ll definitely to book time off work and arrange work-from-home days whilst you heal. If you’re thinking of booking in for Laser Skin Re-Surfacing, you’ll need 7-14 days downtime and side effects for intense laser treatments might include swelling, redness, crustiness and flaking as the skin regenerates. Deep Chemical Peels meanwhile, also requite 7-14 days downtime and you may experience redness, swelling and crusting initially, as the skin peels significantly to reveal fresh layers. The result? A reduction in fine lines, hyperpigmentation and acne scars. Downtime for IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) or laser skin treatments, is slightly less – say 3-7 days. Side effects might include redness, mild swelling and temporary darkening of hyperpigmentation. TCA Cross Treatments can be effective for acne scarring, but will require 7-10 days of downtime and side effects including the forming of scabs and shed as the skin heals. Following the treatment, you’ll see a reduction in the appearance of ice-pick scars and improved skin texture.
Tweakments to Book in Autumn or Winter
Winter is a great time of year for booking tweakments, as our UV exposure is much lower (especially in the UK!) reducing risks of complications like hyperpigmentation. For those treatments that require downtime, winter allows for cozy indoor recovery – and by starting now, you’ll be ready to unveil fresh, rejuvenated skin by Spring.
Chemical peels: reduced sun exposure in the winter months minimises our risk of developing hyperpigmentation post-treatment. Peels can rejuvenate skin by addressing hyperpigmentation, fine lines and dullness. Popular choices include: Glycolic acid, TCA, or salicylic acid peels for varying levels of exfoliation.
Laser treatments: sun avoidance before and after laser treatments is essential to prevent complications like hyperpigmentation. Therefore, the winter months are ideal for treating sun damage accumulated during summer… as we’re very unlikely to see sunlight during the great British winter! Popular choices include: IPL Facials, Fractional Laser Resurfacing and Laser Hair Removal; which is safer and more effective on untanned skin, requiring multiple sessions.
Body contouring treatments: summer bodies are made in the winter, after all! Most non-invading fat reduction treatments take a few months to show results, so it’s a great idea to book and begin your course of body contouring treatment now in order to prepare for summer.
Suitable All-Year Round
A large majority of aesthetic treatments can be performed safely and effectively throughout the year, regardless of the season. These treatments have minimal restrictions related to sun exposure or weather conditions, making them ideal for year-round maintenance.
Microneedling with skin boosters (such as exosomes): Microneedling is a fantastic modality in its own right… But when supercharged with skin nourishing skin boosters, its results are expedited, delivering hydration, boosting skin health and stimulating collagen production.
Botox (anti-wrinkle injections): Minimal downtime and no sun sensitivity mean you can refresh your appearance whenever needed with this ever-popular injectable. Results typically last 3–4 months. Botox can also be injected to reduce underarm or hand sweating for months, managing symptoms of hyperhidrosis.
Dermal Fillers: No seasonal restrictions – with immediate results. Perfect for facial contouring or adding volume to areas like the lips, cheeks, under-eyes and jawline.
HydraFacials: This gentle yet effective treatment suits all skin types and delivers instant hydration and glow without downtime. One is booked every 3 minutes around the globe… and for good reason!
PRP (aka the Vampire Facial): Safe for all skin types and seasons, with no risk of hyperpigmentation changes due to sun exposure. Stimulates collagen production, improves skin tone/texture and can also be used to promote hair growth.
LED Light Therapy: Completely non-invasive, with no downtime or sun-related restrictions. Suitable as a standalone treatment or in combination with facials to enhance your results.
Gentle Chemical Peels: Mild peels with minimal exfoliation can be done all year, as they don’t make the skin overly sensitive to sunlight. These treatments improve skin tone, texture and overall radiance.
Polynucleotides (aka the Salmon Sperm Facial): Polynucleotides address a plethora of skin concerns, and are fantastic at improving the health of your skin on a cellular level.
12 Months Pre-Event
Dr. Tatiana from Drs Tatiana + Rishi says, “For those preparing for a major event, I recommend starting with a comprehensive treatment plan at least 12 months in advance to address acne, redness, rosacea, skin texture, and skin tightening. This allows ample time for the treatments to work synergistically and deliver the best possible results.
- AviClear for Acne: AviClear is highly effective for treating acne, and starting this treatment early ensures the skin is clear and blemish-free leading up to the event. This treatment works by targeting the root causes of acne with minimal downtime, helping to maintain clear skin.
- ExcelV for Redness and Rosacea: This treatment is ideal for reducing redness and treating rosacea. Starting 12 months before the event allows for gradual improvement, with multiple sessions spaced out over time. It helps calm the skin and create a more even complexion, which is key for a flawless look on the big day.
- CO2 Resurfacing: A few months into the treatment plan, I would recommend starting CO2 resurfacing for improving skin texture and addressing fine lines. This treatment is excellent for rejuvenating the skin and encouraging collagen production. Ideally, 3 sessions should be planned to gradually enhance skin texture and smoothness.
- SecretDUO for Skin Tightening: This combination of radiofrequency and microneedling is great for tightening the skin and improving overall skin texture. Three sessions should be spaced throughout the year to ensure results improve progressively, leaving the skin looking firmer and more lifted.
By following this structured approach, the skin has time to heal, regenerate, and reach its peak condition just in time for the big day. Regular follow-ups allow us to monitor progress and adjust treatments as needed for the most refined, radiant results.” – Dr. Tatiana, Drs Tatiana + Rishi
6 Months Pre-Event
“At the six-month mark, I recommend focusing on treatments that enhance skin clarity, volume, and overall appearance. This timeframe allows for gradual improvements, ensuring the skin looks refreshed, balanced, and at its best when the big day arrives.
1. Dermamelan or Pico Laser for Pigmentation: Starting with Dermamelan or Pico laser will address any pigmentation issues, such as sunspots, melasma, or age spots. These treatments work by breaking up pigmentation and promoting even skin tone. Multiple sessions (usually 3-4) are recommended to see maximum results. Starting now ensures any lingering pigmentation is treated ahead of time, leaving you with bright, even skin.
2. Dermal Fillers: At this stage, dermal fillers are ideal for adding volume and improving facial contours. Whether targeting areas like the cheeks, under-eye hollows, or lips, dermal fillers will restore youthful volume and smoothness. The filler should be chosen carefully to match your desired look. I will assess the best options and may schedule a follow-up session to ensure the results are just right.
3. Polynucleotides Course (3-4 Sessions): Polynucleotides are great for skin rejuvenation, hydration, and boosting collagen production. This treatment encourages skin regeneration, leading to improved texture and tone. Three to four sessions over the next few months will provide cumulative benefits, with noticeable improvement in skin elasticity and overall radiance.
4. Botox Trial: If Botox is a consideration, I recommend trying it before the event to ensure it suits you and delivers the desired look. Botox is ideal for reducing wrinkles, especially around the forehead, crow’s feet, and frown lines. A trial run allows you to see how the Botox settles into the skin and makes adjustments if necessary.
5. Start Monthly Facials: To maintain smooth, glowing skin, I recommend starting monthly facials now. Facials will help to avoid the risk of a “purge” before the event, which can happen if deep-cleaning facials or treatments are left too late. Monthly facials will ensure the skin remains clear, hydrated, and balanced, with regular professional care keeping it in top condition.
With this structured approach, each treatment has time to take full effect, allowing for adjustments if needed and ensuring flawless, event-ready skin.” – Dr. Tatiana, Drs Tatiana + Rishi
3 Months Pre-Event
Dr Emma Cunningham says, “At the three-month mark, I recommend focusing on treatments that refine skin quality, boost hydration, and enhance facial balance. This timeframe ensures that results develop gradually, allowing for a naturally refreshed, radiant appearance by the big day.
1. Laser Treatments for Pigmentation & Skin Rejuvenation: At this stage, laser treatments can help tackle pigmentation, uneven tone, and fine lines. Whether targeting sun damage, redness, or texture concerns, laser treatments work by stimulating collagen production and resurfacing the skin. As these procedures may involve some downtime, starting early ensures optimal healing and results.
2. Polynucleotides or Exosomes: Injectable skin boosters like polynucleotides or exosomes deeply nourish and repair the skin barrier, boost collagen production, and increase hydration. These treatments improve skin elasticity, texture, and radiance, creating a naturally refreshed and rejuvenated look ahead of the event. A course of sessions provides progressive improvements over time.
3. Dermal Fillers for Facial Balance & Volume: For those looking to enhance or restore lost volume, dermal fillers can refine facial contours, enhance cheeks, jawline, and lips, and create a subtle, lifted appearance. I recommend starting now at the latest so results have time to settle for the most natural outcome.
4. Profhilo for Hydration and Skin Elasticity: A Profhilo treatment at this stage deeply hydrates, firms, and revitalises the skin. Profhilo enhances skin texture and overall glow by stimulating collagen and elastin production, ensuring a plump, youthful appearance leading up to the event.
By incorporating these treatments three months ahead, the skin has ample time to heal and regenerate, ensuring a smooth, luminous finish that looks effortlessly flawless on the big day.” – Dr Emma Cunningham, Dr Emma Clinics
6 Weeks Pre-Event
“At the six-week mark, I recommend treatments that focus on skin hydration, refining texture, and achieving a polished, youthful appearance—without any downtime or last-minute surprises. These carefully timed treatments ensure the skin looks smooth, radiant, and naturally flawless by the event.
1. Botox: Botox can be used to target areas like the forehead, crow’s feet, and frown lines. By now, Botox should have settled into the skin, and any fine lines or wrinkles will be softened, creating a smoother appearance. This treatment is perfect for ensuring a wrinkle-free look, but it’s essential to have it done 6 weeks before the event to allow time for any adjustments if needed.
2. Polynucleotides to Brighten and Hydrate: Polynucleotides (PN) injections help to hydrate the skin from the inside out while also providing a natural glow. This treatment is great for improving skin texture and tone by stimulating collagen production and enhancing skin’s moisture levels. After a few sessions, you’ll notice brighter, more hydrated skin, which is perfect for the final push before the event.
3. Hydromax Skin Booster: This treatment is designed to perfect the skin by deeply hydrating and improving skin texture. Hydromax skin booster delivers long-lasting moisture, enhances elasticity, and helps refine the skin’s surface, giving it a smoother and healthier appearance. By using this skin booster at the 6-week mark, your skin will be at its most flawless and ready to shine at the event.
This six-week plan guarantees a well-hydrated, smooth, and glowing complexion, with results that continue to improve as the event approaches. By carefully monitoring progress and making any necessary adjustments, we can achieve the most refined and confident version of your skin.” – Dr. Tatiana, Drs Tatiana + Rishi
2 Weeks Before
“With the event fast approaching, I recommend gentle yet effective treatments to ensure the skin looks radiant, hydrated, and refreshed without any risk of irritation or sensitivity. These treatments refine the skin’s texture and give you a polished, glowing complexion in the final two weeks before the big day.
- Laser Treatments: Laser treatment to gently resurface the skin to smooth texture, refine pores, and enhance luminosity. Sloughing away dull, dead skin cells allows for better product absorption and a natural, polished finish.
- Very Mild Chemical Peel: A light chemical peel at this stage helps to brighten and refresh the complexion without causing peeling or downtime. This treatment can even out skin tone, reduce minor imperfections, and boost skin radiance, ensuring a healthy, glowing finish just in time for the event.
- Profhilo for Intense Hydration & Glow: A final Profhilo session provides an added hydration boost, leaving the skin plump, dewy, and naturally illuminated. By enhancing skin elasticity and firmness, Profhilo ensures a smooth, youthful complexion that looks flawless under makeup or bare.
These treatments are designed to provide maximum results with minimal risk, ensuring the skin is hydrated, refreshed, and camera-ready as you approach the big day.” – Dr Emma Cunningham, Dr Emma Clinics
