We hear you – and we’ve been there, so here’s the ultimate breakdown of what to book – and when. Save this one for later!
Tweakments to Book in Advance (Longer Turnaround Time)
Surgical: Tweakments you should book in advance are basically anything surgical. If you’re planning on going under the knife, be sure to chat with your surgeon about downtime and any other restrictions that your surgery may impose on you post-procedure. You may need to consider taking time off work, recovery time, downtime, healing time, check-ups and any potential revision surgeries.
Dental Treatments: Great smiles can take time! If you’re considering braces or other corrective procedures, be sure to get a treatment time estimate from your practitioner. Fast braces and aligners can deliver expedited results (6 month smiles, for example!) But every smile is unique and requires a consultation.
Hair Loss and Restoration Treatments: Results can take a few months to be noticeable if you’re going in for hair loss or restoration treatments, so if you’re worried about hair loss or thinning, getting started on your hair loss journey sooner rather than later can help ensure you feel your most confident in time for your planned events.
Non-surgical Tweakments Requiring Downtime: These treatments pack a punch (but the results are more than worth it!) You’ll definitely to book time off work and arrange work-from-home days whilst you heal. If you’re thinking of booking in for Laser Skin Re-Surfacing, you’ll need 7-14 days downtime and side effects for intense laser treatments might include swelling, redness, crustiness and flaking as the skin regenerates. Deep Chemical Peels meanwhile, also requite 7-14 days downtime and you may experience redness, swelling and crusting initially, as the skin peels significantly to reveal fresh layers. The result? A reduction in fine lines, hyperpigmentation and acne scars. Downtime for IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) or laser skin treatments, is slightly less – say 3-7 days. Side effects might include redness, mild swelling and temporary darkening of hyperpigmentation. TCA Cross Treatments can be effective for acne scarring, but will require 7-10 days of downtime and side effects including the forming of scabs and shed as the skin heals. Following the treatment, you’ll see a reduction in the appearance of ice-pick scars and improved skin texture.
Tweakments to Book in Autumn or Winter
Winter is a great time of year for booking tweakments, as our UV exposure is much lower (especially in the UK!) reducing risks of complications like hyperpigmentation. For those treatments that require downtime, winter allows for cozy indoor recovery – and by starting now, you’ll be ready to unveil fresh, rejuvenated skin by Spring.
Chemical peels: reduced sun exposure in the winter months minimises our risk of developing hyperpigmentation post-treatment. Peels can rejuvenate skin by addressing hyperpigmentation, fine lines and dullness. Popular choices include: Glycolic acid, TCA, or salicylic acid peels for varying levels of exfoliation.
Laser treatments: sun avoidance before and after laser treatments is essential to prevent complications like hyperpigmentation. Therefore, the winter months are ideal for treating sun damage accumulated during summer… as we’re very unlikely to see sunlight during the great British winter! Popular choices include: IPL Facials, Fractional Laser Resurfacing and Laser Hair Removal; which is safer and more effective on untanned skin, requiring multiple sessions.
Body contouring treatments: summer bodies are made in the winter, after all! Most non-invading fat reduction treatments take a few months to show results, so it’s a great idea to book and begin your course of body contouring treatment now in order to prepare for summer.
Suitable All-Year Round
A large majority of aesthetic treatments can be performed safely and effectively throughout the year, regardless of the season. These treatments have minimal restrictions related to sun exposure or weather conditions, making them ideal for year-round maintenance.
- Botox (anti-wrinkle injections): Minimal downtime and no sun sensitivity mean you can refresh your appearance whenever needed with this ever-popular injectable. Results typically last 3–4 months. Botox can also be injected to reduce underarm or hand sweating for months, managing symptoms of hyperhidrosis.
- Dermal Fillers: No seasonal restrictions – with immediate results. Perfect for facial contouring or adding volume to areas like the lips, cheeks, under-eyes and jawline.
- HydraFacials: This gentle yet effective treatment suits all skin types and delivers instant hydration and glow without downtime. One is booked every 3 minutes around the globe… and for good reason!
- PRP (aka the Vampire Facial): Safe for all skin types and seasons, with no risk of hyperpigmentation changes due to sun exposure. Stimulates collagen production, improves skin tone/texture and can also be used to promote hair growth.
- LED Light Therapy: Completely non-invasive, with no downtime or sun-related restrictions. Suitable as a standalone treatment or in combination with facials to enhance your results.
- Gentle Chemical Peels: Mild peels with minimal exfoliation can be done all year, as they don’t make the skin overly sensitive to sunlight. These treatments improve skin tone, texture and overall radiance.
- Polynucleotides (aka the Salmon Sperm Facial): Polynucleotides address a plethora of skin concerns, and are fantastic at improving the health of your skin on a cellular level.
- Microneedling with skin boosters (such as exosomes): Microneedling is a fantastic modality in its own right… But when supercharged with skin nourishing skin boosters, its results are expedited, delivering hydration, boosting skin health and stimulating collagen production.
