Nestled on the slopes of Khao Ngon Nak, with panoramic views of the Andaman Sea and tropical landscapes, Varana Hotel Krabi offers more than just a stay—it’s a journey of well-being and renewal. As Krabi’s first sports and wellness hotel, Varana redefines the concept of luxury with its eco-friendly ethos and unparalleled dedication to health, mindfulness, and sustainability.
The open-air lobby welcomed us with warm smiles, a refreshing drink, and an invitation to explore the expansive resort.
Our home for the trip was the Horizon Garden Suite, a space designed with mindfulness at its core. Every detail reflects a commitment to sustainability without compromising on comfort or style. The headboard is made from repurposed traditional longtail boats, adding a touch of local charm.
The suite’s balcony offered sweeping views of the blue Andaman Sea and the verdant gardens, filled with medicinal and ornamental plants selected to harmonise with the environment. Inside, the spacious layout featured a cloud-like king-size bed, homemade cookies on arrival, and chilled water thoughtfully prepared. The bathroom was a retreat in itself, with a freestanding pebble bath, a rainfall shower, and sliding doors that invited the outdoors in. The expansive balcony, complete with a sofa, was the perfect spot to unwind.
Varana’s dining options are a gastronomic journey, with 4 distinct restaurants catering to every palate. At Kin, we were treated to a sustainable Thai feast that celebrated rich flavours and high-quality ingredients under the guidance of Michelin-starred Chef David Thompson and Iron Chef Pom. The relaxed atmosphere and affordable luxury made every bite memorable.
Beyond Kin, guests can explore Mediterranean delights at Sala, sip cocktails at the poolside bar Sip, or enjoy vibrant evenings at the Beach Club, complete with live DJs and wood-fired pizzas. Varana’s focus on organic, locally sourced ingredients ensures that every meal is as nourishing as it is delicious.
For those seeking adventure or relaxation, Varana offers an incredible range of activities. The private beach invites you to try yoga, windsurfing, beach volleyball, or simply relax on beanbags by the sand. The 4 pools, including an Olympic-sized pool, cater to swimmers and loungers alike.
Fitness enthusiasts will love the outdoor climbing wall, fully equipped gym, and guided yoga sessions. For a unique experience, the stone reflexology path provides a rejuvenating walk designed to stimulate pressure points and promote well-being. With so much on offer, there’s no shortage of ways to stay active.
The heart of Varana’s philosophy lies in its dedication to health and well-being. We immersed ourselves in the Naam Ritual Wellness, a one-of-a-kind hydrotherapy journey that combines mud masks, herbal steam, and flotation therapy. This 10-step, self-guided experience left us feeling deeply relaxed and reconnected with nature, a truly unique experience.
The FAA Spa & Onsen offered an additional layer of indulgence, with massages tailored to relieve stress, improve digestion, and enhance sleep quality. For guests looking to dip in for the day, spa passes are available, making these wellness offerings accessible to all.
At Varana, luxury and sustainability go hand in hand. From energy-efficient water heating systems to the use of recycled materials in furnishings, every element of the hotel has been designed with care for the environment. Electric tuk-tuks, groundwater banking, and a zero-waste philosophy further demonstrate the hotel’s commitment to eco-conscious living.
Locally sourced ingredients and an on-site organic garden reduce the hotel’s carbon footprint while supporting the local community. This holistic approach ensures that guests can indulge guilt-free, knowing their stay contributes to a sustainable future.
Whether you’re a couple seeking a romantic retreat, a group of friends looking to reconnect, or an older family prioritising health and fitness, Varana caters to all. Its tranquil atmosphere and emphasis on well-being make it a standout destination for those who value mindfulness and rejuvenation while enjoying the finer things in life. A stay here is sure to leave you inspired and recharged.
